The Belgian School of Medical Acupuncture brings together a team of instructors who are all physicians from various specialties. Their goal is to teach an approach to acupuncture that is integrated with modern medicine, while maintaining the fundamental knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine.
The curriculum covers the various approaches used in medical acupuncture: traditional acupuncture, electroacupuncture, auriculotherapy, scalp acupuncture, laser therapy, and other complementary techniques. This diversity allows each participant to gain a comprehensive view of the discipline and gradually develop their own clinical practice.
Training designed for clinical practice
The training follows a logical progression between theory and practice. Fundamental concepts are first addressed in a structured manner to build a solid foundation, before being applied during in-person sessions through demonstrations and exercises.
Before each training weekend, online course materials allow participants to study theoretical concepts at their own pace. In-person sessions are then dedicated to discussions, clinical reviews, demonstrations, and supervised practice.

Comprehensive medical training in acupuncture
For over 50 years, the ABMA School of Acupuncture has trained physicians looking to integrate medical acupuncture into their clinical practice. Its curriculum combines the foundations of acupuncture with Western medical knowledge and current scientific data to offer a rigorous approach that is directly applicable in a clinical setting.
The curriculum is spread over two years and alternates between theoretical instruction, demonstrations, practical workshops, and clinical case discussions. Educational materials are provided before each weekend session so that in-person time can focus on discussion, demonstrations, and supervised practice.
Upon completion of the training and passing the final exam, physicians receive the ABMA medical acupuncturist diploma. They can then continue their professional development through seminars and continuing education courses organized by the association.

Who is the Acupuncture School training intended for?
The training is reserved for physicians. It is intended for practitioners who wish to integrate medical acupuncture into their clinical practice within a rigorous approach based on medical diagnosis and coordinated with other indicated treatments.
No previous experience in acupuncture is required to begin the curriculum.
Do I already need to practise acupuncture to enrol?
No. The training is designed to allow physicians to discover the foundations of acupuncture and their clinical application progressively.
Theoretical concepts, point location, stimulation techniques and the approach of the physician-acupuncturist are introduced step by step throughout the curriculum.
How long does the training last?
The basic curriculum takes place over two years and combines theoretical teaching, practical exercises and clinical scenarios.
At the end of the training, physicians sit a final examination. Passing this examination leads to the ABMA diploma in medical acupuncture.
How are the Acupuncture School courses organised?
