Belgian Association of Medical Acupuncturists

Since 1973, the ABMA has brought together medical acupuncturists and worked toward the recognition, promotion, and development of acupuncture as an integrated part of medical practice.

Over 50 years serving medical acupuncture

Founded in 1973, the ABMA is the oldest medical acupuncture society in Belgium. Since its inception, it has brought together physicians trained in acupuncture and serves as their voice to authorities, health insurance funds, the Academy of Medicine, and private insurers. The association also contributes to scientific research, training, and the promotion of a practice rooted in a medical approach.

Represent, train, and advance

The ABMA represents acupuncture physicians to the authorities and organizations involved in medical acupuncture in Belgium. It also helps raise awareness of this practice among healthcare professionals and the general public.

Its work is structured around three complementary missions: representing acupuncture physicians, developing knowledge and training, and promoting rigorous medical practice.

Representing the voice of medical acupuncturists

The ABMA, through UPMAB, represents medical acupuncture in discussions with authorities and organizations involved in its practice framework, recognition, and development in Belgium.

Develop and share knowledge

The association promotes scientific research in medical acupuncture. Its school offers training designed to foster exchange with European medical schools and societies.

Defending rigorous medical practice

The ABMA dedicates resources to professional advocacy and the promotion of medical acupuncture in Belgium, serving both physicians and the quality of practice.

The ABMA internationally

The ABMA represents Belgium at international congresses dedicated to acupuncture. The presence of its delegates fosters exchanges between practitioners, the sharing of knowledge, and dialogue with foreign medical societies. This openness also fuels reflection on training and its harmonization with the standards followed in other European Union countries.
